General information

the outer syncytial layer of the trophoblast that actively invades the uterine wall forming the outermost fetal component of the placenta. These cells form a multinucleate mass with no observable cell boundaries. The syncytiotrophoblast secretes hCG (human chorionic gonadotropin hormone) which will maintain the corpus leteum:fs endocrine activity. This hormone is detected by pregnancy tests 10 days after conception.
