Details for messenger / hormone: bradykinin

EndoNet ID: ENH00062

To link to the content of EndoNet use the EndoNet ID that is given on the detail pages in the format ENX0000, where X is a place holder for the type of the component (e. g. R for receptor or C for anatomical structure).
As URL for the linking append this ID to the detail page for this type of component.
For an hormone that would be:

http://endonet.bioinf.med.uni-goettingen.de/hormone/ENH00000

It is also possible to use the search of EndoNet to link to the right detail page. The URL should look like

http://endonet.bioinf.med.uni-goettingen.de/search/ENC00000
If the search pattern is unambigious the user is directed to the corresponding detail page.

General information

  • The pro-inflammatory effects of bradykinin is mediated by at least two receptors: B2 and B1. The B2 subtype is expressed constitutively and the B1 receptor is induced following tissue inflammation and damage. The endogenous ligand for the B1 receptor is des-arg9BK, a cleavage product of the activity of carboxypeptidase on BK. Activation of B1 receptors produces a range of pro-inflammatory effects including oedema, pain and promotion of blood-borne leukocyte trafficking. [1]
  • Bradykinin and its biologically active metabolite des-Arg9 bradykinin (DABK), are produced at sites of inflammation and are important inflammatory mediators. [2]
  • Bradykinin is a 9 amino acid peptide chain. It is processed from a kininogen precursor by kallikreins.
  • Bradykinin stimulates vasodilatation and endothelial cell proliferation. [3]
