General information

  • C-reactive protein (CRP) is the prototypical acute phase serum protein, rising rapidly in response to inflammation. [1]
  • C-reactive protein-induced upregulation of extracellular matrix metalloproteinase inducer in macrophages. [2]
  • The gene encoding CRP is expressed in adipose tissue. [3]
  • CRP binds to phosphocholine (PC) and related molecules on microorganisms and plays an important role in host defense. [1]
  • CRP is mainly produced by the liver with its synthesis being largely regulated by IL6. [4]
  • Human adipose tissue expresses CRP mRNA, which is negatively correlated with adiponectin expression in the same tissue. [4]
