Details for messenger / hormone: BMP2

EndoNet ID: ENH00366

To link to the content of EndoNet use the EndoNet ID that is given on the detail pages in the format ENX0000, where X is a place holder for the type of the component (e. g. R for receptor or C for anatomical structure).
As URL for the linking append this ID to the detail page for this type of component.
For an hormone that would be:

http://endonet.bioinf.med.uni-goettingen.de/hormone/ENH00000

It is also possible to use the search of EndoNet to link to the right detail page. The URL should look like

http://endonet.bioinf.med.uni-goettingen.de/search/ENC00000
If the search pattern is unambigious the user is directed to the corresponding detail page.

General information

  • BMP2 induced Wnt1 and Wnt3a expression in C3H10T1/2 cells and thus may play a role in initiating autocrine Wnt signaling. [1]
  • GREMLIN and DANTE are secreted antagonists for BMPs and SLITs. [2]
  • BMP-2 is a negative growth regulator in the retina and retinal pigmented epithelium that are downregulated by injury. [3]
  • Particularly abundant in lung, spleen and colon and in low but significant levels in heart, brain, placenta, liver, skeletal muscle, kidney, pancreas, prostate, ovary and small intestine. [4]
  • Induces cartilage and bone formation. [4]
  • BMP-2 induces apoptosis by protein kinase C-dependent, Smad 1-independent mechanisms. [5]
