Details for messenger / hormone: cathepsin L

EndoNet ID: ENH00428

To link to the content of EndoNet use the EndoNet ID that is given on the detail pages in the format ENX0000, where X is a place holder for the type of the component (e. g. R for receptor or C for anatomical structure).
As URL for the linking append this ID to the detail page for this type of component.
For an hormone that would be:

http://endonet.bioinf.med.uni-goettingen.de/hormone/ENH00000

It is also possible to use the search of EndoNet to link to the right detail page. The URL should look like

http://endonet.bioinf.med.uni-goettingen.de/search/ENC00000
If the search pattern is unambigious the user is directed to the corresponding detail page.

General information

  • MEP is a lysosomal Man- 6-P-containing protease, identical to cathepsin L. [1]
  • Function: Cathepsins B, L and S are ubiquitously expressed in tissues and perform general household functions in protein turnover, although they participate in antigen or major histocompatibility complex (MHC)II invariant chain processing. [2]

      • Anatomical structure: fibroblast

        • Both the synthesis and secretion of MEP are dramatically increased in response to tumor promoters, certain growth factors, and viral transformation. [3]
        • Although the biological function of secreted MEP is not known, the patterno f its regulation by growth factors and transforming agents suggests that it plays some important role in the growth of normal and transformed cells. [1]
