General information

  • The gamma-2 chain is a subunit of laminin-5 (epiligrin/kalinin/nicein). [1]
  • The gamma-2 chain of laminin-5 is cleaved mainly to a 105-kDa form by astacin-like metalloproteinase families, which include BMP-1 and mammalian tolloid. [2]
  • Increased N-terminal fragments of gamma-2-chains are secreted from alveolar epithelial cells during immediate reepithelization to repair injured lung epithelium. [3]
  • Never joined to the beta-1 chain. [4]
  • The gamma-2 monomer is secreted from some pancreatic carcinoma cells with no production of alpha-3 or beta-3 chain. [3]
  • Epithelial cells regulates their gamma-2-chain expression under the specific stimulation by HGF. [3]
  • HGF contributes to cell migration by assisting cytoplasmic accumulation of laminin gamma-2-chains in invading carcinoma cells. [3]
  • EGF-like domain of gamma-2 chain activates downstream signaling including EGF receptor and ERK1/2 phosphorylation, leading to enhanced cell motility. [3]
  • The cleavage of laminin gamma-2 chain to the 105kDa isoform increases the cell motility activity of laminin-5 but decreases its cell adhesion activity. [2]
