Details for messenger / hormone: SHH

EndoNet ID: ENH00530

To link to the content of EndoNet use the EndoNet ID that is given on the detail pages in the format ENX0000, where X is a place holder for the type of the component (e. g. R for receptor or C for anatomical structure).
As URL for the linking append this ID to the detail page for this type of component.
For an hormone that would be:

http://endonet.bioinf.med.uni-goettingen.de/hormone/ENH00000

It is also possible to use the search of EndoNet to link to the right detail page. The URL should look like

http://endonet.bioinf.med.uni-goettingen.de/search/ENC00000
If the search pattern is unambigious the user is directed to the corresponding detail page.

General information

  • Shh directs cell-cycle exit by activating p57Kip2 in the zebrafish retina. [1]
  • Shh-dependent formation of the ZLI (zona limitans intrathalamica) is opposed by signals from the dorsal diencephalon. [2]
  • Binds to the patched (PTC) receptor, which functions in association with smoothened (SMO), to activate the transcription of target genes. [3]
  • Sonic hedgehog (Shh) protein and gene are involved in the differentiation of many organ systems such as notochord, floor plate, and limbs; development of the left-right axis in vertebrates; and differentiation of trachea and esophagus from the primitive foregut. [4]
  • Shh controls epithelial proliferation via independent pathways that converge on N-Myc. [5]
  • NF-kappaB transmits Eda A1/EdaR signalling to activate Shh and cyclin D1 expression, and controls post-initiation hair placode down growth. [6]
  • The microRNA miR-196 acts upstream of Hoxb8 and Shh in limb development. [7]
  • FGF-induced vesicular release of Sonic hedgehog and retinoic acid in leftward nodal flow is critical for left-right determination. [8]
