General information

  • The soluble form is chemotactic for T-cells and monocytes, but not for neutrophils. [1]
  • This molecule can exist in two forms: either membrane-anchored or as a shed 95K glycoprotein. The soluble CX3C chemokine has potent chemoattractant activity for T cells and monocytes, and the cell-surface-bound protein, which is induced on activated primary endothelial cells, promotes strong adhesion of those leukocytes. [2]
  • Tumor necrosis factor-alpha-converting enzyme (ADAM17) mediates the cleavage and shedding of fractalkine (CX3CL1). [3]
  • Neurotactin is a membrane-anchored chemokine upregulated in brain inflammation. [4]
  • Fractalkine is a CX3C-type chemokine that induces chemotaxis of monocytes and cytotoxic T cells. [5]
