Details for messenger / hormone: TIMP-1

EndoNet ID: ENH00633

To link to the content of EndoNet use the EndoNet ID that is given on the detail pages in the format ENX0000, where X is a place holder for the type of the component (e. g. R for receptor or C for anatomical structure).
As URL for the linking append this ID to the detail page for this type of component.
For an hormone that would be:

http://endonet.bioinf.med.uni-goettingen.de/hormone/ENH00000

It is also possible to use the search of EndoNet to link to the right detail page. The URL should look like

http://endonet.bioinf.med.uni-goettingen.de/search/ENC00000
If the search pattern is unambigious the user is directed to the corresponding detail page.

General information

  • Inhibits matrix metalloproteases.
  • Forms a complex with MMP9 at cell surface.
  • TIMP-1-mediated cell cycle arrest is associated with its downregulation of cyclin D(1) and upregulation of p27(KIP1), resulting in inhibition of cyclin-dependent kinase activity necessary for phosphorylation of the tumor suppressor retinoblastoma protein. [1]
  • Contributes to cell proliferation and stress responses.
  • TIMP-1 has antiapoptotic activity. [1]
  • Subject to X chromosomal inactivation.
  • Acts on MMP-1, MMP-2, MMP-3, MMP-7, MMP-8, MMP-9, MMP-10, MMP-11, MMP-12, MMP-13 and MMP-16. Does not act on MMP-14. [2]
  • Overexpression of TIMP-1 correlates with aggressive clinical behavior of a spectrum of tumors. [3]
  • Erythropoietin regulates the transcription of the TIMP-1 gene upon binding to its receptor in erythroid cells by triggering the activation of phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase (PI3K)/Akt. [4]
