Details for messenger / hormone: CST6

EndoNet ID: ENH00664

To link to the content of EndoNet use the EndoNet ID that is given on the detail pages in the format ENX0000, where X is a place holder for the type of the component (e. g. R for receptor or C for anatomical structure).
As URL for the linking append this ID to the detail page for this type of component.
For an hormone that would be:

http://endonet.bioinf.med.uni-goettingen.de/hormone/ENH00000

It is also possible to use the search of EndoNet to link to the right detail page. The URL should look like

http://endonet.bioinf.med.uni-goettingen.de/search/ENC00000
If the search pattern is unambigious the user is directed to the corresponding detail page.

General information

  • CST6 is a glycosylated and secreted cysteine protease inhibitor. [1]
  • Cystatin M/E is a high affinity inhibitor of cathepsin V and cathepsin L by a reactive site that is distinct from the legumain-binding site, and may have a role in epidermal cornification. [2]
  • Cystatin M/E is a high affinity inhibitor of the asparaginyl endopeptidase legumain. [2]
  • Ectopic expression of CST6 in human breast cancer cells suppresses cell proliferation, migration, invasion, and orthotopic tumor growth. [3]
  • Cystatin M is a tumor suppressor important in breast malignancy, and is a target for epigenetic silencing during mammary tumorigenesis. [4]
  • CST6 is a substrate for transglutaminase. [5]
  • CST6 alters the gene expression profile of human breast carcinoma cells, and down-regulates the potent mitogenic, motogenic, and angiogenic factor autotaxin. [3]
  • CST6 is down-regulated in breast cancer. [1]
