Details for messenger / hormone: LFA-3

EndoNet ID: ENH00668

To link to the content of EndoNet use the EndoNet ID that is given on the detail pages in the format ENX0000, where X is a place holder for the type of the component (e. g. R for receptor or C for anatomical structure).
As URL for the linking append this ID to the detail page for this type of component.
For an hormone that would be:

http://endonet.bioinf.med.uni-goettingen.de/hormone/ENH00000

It is also possible to use the search of EndoNet to link to the right detail page. The URL should look like

http://endonet.bioinf.med.uni-goettingen.de/search/ENC00000
If the search pattern is unambigious the user is directed to the corresponding detail page.

  • CD58 antigen

General information

  • The complement inhibitor CD59 and the lymphocyte function-associated antigen-3 (LFA-3, CD58) genes possess functional binding sites for the p53 tumor suppressor protein. [1]
  • LFA-3 (CD58) mediates T-lymphocyte adhesion in chronic inflammatory infiltrates. [2]
  • The lymphocyte associated antigen 3 (LFA-3, CD58) has been found in soluble form (sCD58) in human sera. [3]

      • Anatomical structure: leukocyte

        • The widespread, but not ubiquitous, distribution of LFA-3 contrasted with the more restricted distribution of ICAM-1. [4]
        • LFA-3 is widely distributed on peripheral blood leucocytes. [4]
      • Anatomical structure: cardiac_muscle

        • Furthermore, the unexpected finding that LFA-3 is strongly expressed on intercalated discs of cardiac muscle may possibly be related to a non-immune function, or indicate a structurally similar epitope expressed by an unrelated molecule within this tissue. [4]
      • Anatomical structure: thymic_epithelial_cell

        • In vitro studies suggest that intrathymic T-cell activation is mediated through binding between CD2 receptor on the thymocyte surface and LFA-3 expressed on thymic epithelium, particulary in the thymic subcapsular cortex. [4]
      • Anatomical structure: dendritic_cell_in_lymphoid_tissues

        • The presence of LFA-3 on dendritic cells is consistent with the specialised function of these cells in presenting antigen to effector T-cells. [4]
