General information

  • current understanding of the biology of IL-28 and IL-29 suggests a role similar to type I IFNs in immunity to viral infection, additional biological activities analogous to those of the IL-10 family members or other biological properties are also possible. [1]
  • IL-28 and IL-29 with their receptor may serve as an alternative therapeutic choice to type I IFNs. [1]
  • The type III interefrons show IFN-like activities, but they action through another receptor complex than the type I IFNs. [2]
  • There are signs for an antiviral function of the Interferon-lambdas, but the real antiviral potential in vivo of it, or the mechanism it works is still not clear. [2]
