Details for messenger / hormone: perlecan

EndoNet ID: ENH00795

To link to the content of EndoNet use the EndoNet ID that is given on the detail pages in the format ENX0000, where X is a place holder for the type of the component (e. g. R for receptor or C for anatomical structure).
As URL for the linking append this ID to the detail page for this type of component.
For an hormone that would be:

http://endonet.bioinf.med.uni-goettingen.de/hormone/ENH00000

It is also possible to use the search of EndoNet to link to the right detail page. The URL should look like

http://endonet.bioinf.med.uni-goettingen.de/search/ENC00000
If the search pattern is unambigious the user is directed to the corresponding detail page.

General information

  • Perlecan binds FGF-2, which is critical in vascular development and wound healing. [1]
  • Perlecan binds dimers of the chemokine Il-8. [1]
  • Perlecan is also able to bind the growth factor granulocyte/macrophage-colony-stimulating factor. [1]
  • Perlecan is a potent inducer of cell growth and angiogenesis, and therapeutic interventions targeting this key modulator of tumor progression may improve wound healing, including osseous regeneration. [1]
  • Potent inducer of FGF-2-mediated neovascularization. [1]
  • Important component of all basement membranes, it is also thought to play a role in wound healing and angiogenesis. [1]
  • The heparan-sulfate-decorated extracellular biomolecule perlecan is a proteoglycan. [1]
  • Perlecan is thought to modulate binding between the basement membrane structure and various cells, including smooth-muscle cells and aortic endothelial cells. [1]
