Details for messenger / hormone: ECM1a

EndoNet ID: ENH00868

To link to the content of EndoNet use the EndoNet ID that is given on the detail pages in the format ENX0000, where X is a place holder for the type of the component (e. g. R for receptor or C for anatomical structure).
As URL for the linking append this ID to the detail page for this type of component.
For an hormone that would be:

http://endonet.bioinf.med.uni-goettingen.de/hormone/ENH00000

It is also possible to use the search of EndoNet to link to the right detail page. The URL should look like

http://endonet.bioinf.med.uni-goettingen.de/search/ENC00000
If the search pattern is unambigious the user is directed to the corresponding detail page.

Synonyms

  • ECM1a
  • secretory component p85
  • extracellular matrix protein 1
  • ECM1-1
  • extracellular matrix protein 1 full length isoform

General information

  • Extracellular matrix protein 1, an approximately 85-kDa glycoprotein with broad tissue distribution, harbors mutations in lipoid proteinosis, a heritable disease characterized by reduplication of basement membranes and hyalinization of dermis, associated with neurologic disorders. [1]
  • ECM1 tends to be preferentially expressed by metastatic epithelial tumors. [2]
  • Both the ECM1a and ECM1b isoforms are able to stimulate blood vessel endothelial cell proliferation, and to promote angiogenesis. [3]
  • Expression of ECM1 in human skin is decreased by age and increased upon ultraviolet exposure. [4]
  • ECM1 interacts with the domain III of fibulin-1C and 1D variants through its central tandem repeat 2. [5]
  • Perlecan protein core interacts with extracellular matrix protein 1, a glycoprotein involved in bone formation and angiogenesis. [6]
  • ECM1 inhibits MMP9 proteolytic activity through high-affinity protein/protein interactions. [1]
