General information

  • SMOC-1 is a member of the BM-40 family of proteins as defined by containing a pair of a follistatin-like domain and an extracellular calcium-binding domain. [1]
  • SMOC-1 is an antagonist of BMPs, but XSMOC-1 acts intracellularly, via the mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) signaling pathway, rather than by extracellular binding to the ligands themselves. [2]
