Details for messenger / hormone: elastase-2

EndoNet ID: ENH00938

To link to the content of EndoNet use the EndoNet ID that is given on the detail pages in the format ENX0000, where X is a place holder for the type of the component (e. g. R for receptor or C for anatomical structure).
As URL for the linking append this ID to the detail page for this type of component.
For an hormone that would be:

http://endonet.bioinf.med.uni-goettingen.de/hormone/ENH00000

It is also possible to use the search of EndoNet to link to the right detail page. The URL should look like

http://endonet.bioinf.med.uni-goettingen.de/search/ENC00000
If the search pattern is unambigious the user is directed to the corresponding detail page.

General information

  • CRP degradation products generated by neutrophil elastase promote neutrophil apoptosis. [1]
  • Neutrophil elastase is capable of digesting virtually every type of matrix protein, including several types of collagen, fibronectin, proteoglycans, heparin, and cross-linked fibrin. [2]
  • Alpha-melanocyte-stimulating hormone down-regulates CXC receptors through activation of neutrophil elastase. [1]
  • NE increases IL-8 transcription through p38/NF-kappaB activation via EGFR transactivation. [3]
  • Soluble neutrophil-derived protease.
  • The biological roles of neutrophil elastase also include acting as a secretagogue for cytokines, glycosaminoglycans, and mucin, in addition to acting as a modulator of inflammation. [2]
  • Mutations in ELA2, the gene encoding neutrophil elastase, cause the human diseases cyclic neutropenia and severe congenital neutropenia. [4]
  • Involved in the tissue destruction and inflammation that characterize numerous diseases, including hereditary emphysema, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, cystic fibrosis, adult respiratory distress syndrome, ischemic-reperfusion injury and rheumatoid arthritis. [5]
  • Neutrophil elastase induces cell proliferation and migration by the release of TGF-alpha, PDGF and VEGF. [6]
