General information

  • MMP-7 is implicated in various normal processes of tissue remodeling, such as embryonic development, wound healing, trophoblast implantation, and organ morphogenesis. [1]
  • Matrix metalloproteinase-7 is a 19-kDa matrilysin, whose gene maps to human chromosome 11q21-q22. Active MMP-7 has a broad proteolytic activity against several kinds of extracellular matrix substrates, like collagens, fibronectin, laminin, casein, elastin, entactin, cartilage proteoglycan, etc. [1]
  • The proteolytic degradation of MMP-7 contributes to the invasion and metastasis of tumor cells by the following mechanisms: (i) activating other MMP; (ii) increasing angiogenesis; (iii) regulating the mobility of cells; (iv) hydrolyzing the extracellular matrix; (v) influencing the apoptosis of cells.
