Details for messenger / hormone: slit-2 isoform 1 N-product

EndoNet ID: ENH00978

To link to the content of EndoNet use the EndoNet ID that is given on the detail pages in the format ENX0000, where X is a place holder for the type of the component (e. g. R for receptor or C for anatomical structure).
As URL for the linking append this ID to the detail page for this type of component.
For an hormone that would be:

http://endonet.bioinf.med.uni-goettingen.de/hormone/ENH00000

It is also possible to use the search of EndoNet to link to the right detail page. The URL should look like

http://endonet.bioinf.med.uni-goettingen.de/search/ENC00000
If the search pattern is unambigious the user is directed to the corresponding detail page.

General information

  • The neuronal chemorepellent Slit2 inhibits vascular smooth muscle cell migration by suppressing small GTPase Rac1 activation. [1]
  • Slit2 is a repellent for retinal ganglion cell axons. [2]
  • Promoter region hypermethylation and transcriptional silencing of SLIT2 in lung, breast, colorectal and glioma cell lines and primary tumours have been reported. [3]
  • Slit2 is cleaved into Slit2-N, a protein tightly binding to cell membranes, and Slit2-C, a diffusible fragment. [1]
  • On binding to Robo receptors, Slit2 repels developing axons and inhibits leukocyte chemotaxis. [1]
  • SLIT2 axon guidance molecule is frequently inactivated in colorectal cancer and suppresses growth of colorectal carcinoma cells. [4]
  • Heparin/HS is an integral component of the minimal Slit-Robo signaling complex and serves to stabilize the relatively weak Slit-Robo interaction. [5]
  • Re-expression of SLIT2 inhibits the growth of cancer cell lines so that SLIT2 appears to function as a novel tumour suppressor gene. [3]
  • Slit2, a neuronal repellent factor, is up-regulated in the skin by allergen sensitization and down-regulates the migration of Langerhans cells. [6]
  • Slit2 can act bifunctionally, both repulsing and stimulating the motility of trunk neural crest cells. [7]
  • EphrinA5 and slit2 are important repulsive guidance cues in the developing retinotectal system. [8]
