Graves disease is an autoimmune thyroid disease characterized by the presence of antibodies against the thyrotropin receptor (TSHR), which result in constitutive activation of the receptor and increased levels of thyroid hormone, and stimulate the thyroid to cause hyperthyroidism and/or goiter.
