EndoNet ID: ENP00493

Name

Hypothyroidism

General information

This phenotype is not pathologic
  • Hypothyroidism is an endocrine disease in vertebrates caused by insufficient production of thyroid hormones by the thyroid gland. [1]
  • tertiary hypothyroidism: Hypothalamus fails to produce sufficient thyrotropin-releasing hormone (TRH). [2]
  • Thyroid hormone receptor fails to bind thyroid hormone [3]

Phenotype triggers

  • thyroid hormone receptor
    in thyroid_gland
    • Hypothyroidism can be a result of either an absent thyroid gland or a deficiency in stimulating hormones from the hypothalamus or pituitary. [1]
  • TRH-R
    in basophil_thyrotroph_cell_of_anterior_pituitary
    • Tertiary hypothyroidism is the result of an failure of the hypothalamus to produce sufficient thyrotropin-releasing hormone. [2]
