General information
This phenotype is not pathologic
Hypothyroidism is an endocrine disease in vertebrates caused by insufficient production of thyroid hormones by the thyroid gland.
[1]
tertiary hypothyroidism: Hypothalamus fails to produce sufficient thyrotropin-releasing hormone (TRH).
[2]
Thyroid hormone receptor fails to bind thyroid hormone
[3]
The syndrome of resistance to thyroid hormone is characterized by diffuse goiter, varying manifestations of hypothyroidism, elevated serum concentrations of T3 and T4, and normal (or elevated) serum thyrotropin concentrations
