Hashimoto's thyroiditis (chronic lymphocytic thyroiditis) is an autoimmune disease in which the thyroid gland is gradually destroyed by a variety of cell and antibody mediated immune processes.

In Hashimoto's disease, two genes linked to the human major histocompatibility complex and the immunoglobulin allotype , respectively, control the susceptibility of the disease. Common immunogenetic factors are involved in the pathogenesis of Hashimoto's diseases
