Details for receptor: RAR

EndoNet ID: ENR00058

To link to the content of EndoNet use the EndoNet ID that is given on the detail pages in the format ENX0000, where X is a place holder for the type of the component (e. g. R for receptor or C for anatomical structure).
As URL for the linking append this ID to the detail page for this type of component.
For an hormone that would be:

http://endonet.bioinf.med.uni-goettingen.de/hormone/ENH00000

It is also possible to use the search of EndoNet to link to the right detail page. The URL should look like

http://endonet.bioinf.med.uni-goettingen.de/search/ENC00000
If the search pattern is unambigious the user is directed to the corresponding detail page.

Synonyms

  • retinoic acid receptor
  • RAR

General information

  • Regulation of the CYP 2 family involves nuclear receptors related to the steroid hormone receptor superfamily, such as the constitutive androstane receptor and the retinoic acid receptor. Retinoic acid is a CYP 2C (CYP 2C8) substrate, thus the regulation of CYP 2C8 expression by a receptor that is activated by an endogenous substrate such as retinoic acid is not surprising. CYP 2C9, which is highly homologous to CYP 2C8, is inducible in primary human hepatocytes by xenobiotics including dexamethasone and phenobarbital. [1]
  • RAR builds a heterodimer with RXR.

Binding hormones

  • retinoic acid

Anatomical structures with this receptor

  • chondrocyte

    Induced phenotypes

    • skeletal system development
      • The results of our study demonstrate for the first time that chondrocyte maturation in the cartilaginous skeletal elements of chick embryo limbs involves marked changes in RAR gene expression [2]
  • basophil_thyrotroph_cell_of_anterior_pituitary

    Influences

    • negative TSH
      • Retinoic acid plays an important inhibitory role on in vivo secretion of TSH and this effect is unrelated to the thyroid status of the animals. [3]
  • macrophage

    Induced phenotypes

    • Positive regulator of inflammatory cytokine production
      • Inflammatory cytokine production is impaired in RAR-deficient macrophages. [4]
