General information

  • DCC association with lipid rafts is required for netrin-1-mediated axon guidance. [1]
  • Activation of the slit receptor Robo silences the attractive effect of netrin-1, but not its growth-stimulatory effect, through direct binding of the cytoplasmic domain of Robo to that of the netrin receptor DCC. [2]
  • DCC is a type I transmembrane protein with an extracellular domain composed of four immunoglobulin domains, six fibronectin type III domains, a single transmembrane spanning region and a cytoplasmic domain including ADD. [3]
  • UNC5H or DCC, when expressed in the absence of netrin-1, can induce cell death, whereas the presence of netrin-1 is sufficient for blocking this proapoptotic activity. [3]
  • DCC and the UNC5H proteins regulate apoptosis; positively in the absence of netrin-1, or negatively in the presence of netrin-1. This is designated as the 'dependence receptor' concept. [4]
