Details for receptor: PTC1

EndoNet ID: ENR00712

To link to the content of EndoNet use the EndoNet ID that is given on the detail pages in the format ENX0000, where X is a place holder for the type of the component (e. g. R for receptor or C for anatomical structure).
As URL for the linking append this ID to the detail page for this type of component.
For an hormone that would be:

http://endonet.bioinf.med.uni-goettingen.de/hormone/ENH00000

It is also possible to use the search of EndoNet to link to the right detail page. The URL should look like

http://endonet.bioinf.med.uni-goettingen.de/search/ENC00000
If the search pattern is unambigious the user is directed to the corresponding detail page.

General information

  • In the absence of SHH, PTC represses the constitutive signaling activity of SMO. [1]
  • Receptor for SHH, IHH and DHH.
  • The Ptc tumour suppressor functions normally as a transmembrane molecular transporter, which acts indirectly to inhibit Smo activity, possibly through changes in distribution or concentration of a small molecule. [2]
  • Patched induces apoptotic cell death unless its ligand Shh is present to block the signal. [3]
  • Mutations affecting the transmembrane proteins Patched (Ptc) or Smoothened (Smo) that trigger ligand-independent activity of the Hedgehog (Hh) signalling pathway are associated with human tumours such as basal cell carcinoma (BCC) and medulloblastoma. [2]

Binding hormones

  • SHH
  • IHH
    • Indian hedgehog (Ihh) has two signaling receptors: patched (Ptc) and smoothened (Smo). [4]
  • DHH
    • Patched (Ptc/Ptch) is a twelve-pass transmembrane sterol-sensing domain protein that binds alle three mammalian Hh ligands [5]

    Induced phenotypes

    • lung development
      • The interaction between Shh and Ptc is required for lung bud formation. [6]
    • Its receptor Patched-1 (Ptc) is located in the mesenchymal cells. [6]
