Details for receptor: integrin alpha-6/beta-4

EndoNet ID: ENR01168

To link to the content of EndoNet use the EndoNet ID that is given on the detail pages in the format ENX0000, where X is a place holder for the type of the component (e. g. R for receptor or C for anatomical structure).
As URL for the linking append this ID to the detail page for this type of component.
For an hormone that would be:

http://endonet.bioinf.med.uni-goettingen.de/hormone/ENH00000

It is also possible to use the search of EndoNet to link to the right detail page. The URL should look like

http://endonet.bioinf.med.uni-goettingen.de/search/ENC00000
If the search pattern is unambigious the user is directed to the corresponding detail page.

Synonyms

  • integrin alpha6-beta4
  • integrin alpha6beta4

General information

  • Restricts migration and maintains hemidesmosomal integrity.
  • Laminin binding to this receptor results in activation of an associated kinase and consequently tyrosine phosphorylation of the beta-4 subunit cytoplasmic domain, followed by association of the adaptor protein Shc with tyrosine phosphorylated beta-4 integrin subunit. Shc is then phosphorylated, and combines with the adaptor protein Grb2. This leads to Ras activation followed by activation of a kinase cascade consisting of Raf, MEK (MAPK/ERK kinase) and ERK, resulting in increased cell motility and proliferation. [1]
  • Activates the JNK cascade, via Rac1, resulting in jun protein expression. [1]
  • Integrin alpha 6/beta 4 complex is located in hemidesmosomes, suggesting a major role in epidermal cell-basement membrane adhesion. [2]
