Details for receptor: alpha-Klotho

EndoNet ID: ENR01349

To link to the content of EndoNet use the EndoNet ID that is given on the detail pages in the format ENX0000, where X is a place holder for the type of the component (e. g. R for receptor or C for anatomical structure).
As URL for the linking append this ID to the detail page for this type of component.
For an hormone that would be:

http://endonet.bioinf.med.uni-goettingen.de/hormone/ENH00000

It is also possible to use the search of EndoNet to link to the right detail page. The URL should look like

http://endonet.bioinf.med.uni-goettingen.de/search/ENC00000
If the search pattern is unambigious the user is directed to the corresponding detail page.

Synonyms

  • alpha-Klotho

General information

  • The five exons of αklotho gene encode a single pass, type I transmembrane, and β-glycosidase-like protein with β-glucuronidase activity. The αklotho protein shares 41% amino acid identity with βklotho. [1]
  • Two soluble species have also been reported, an alternatively spliced secreted form (sKL) (exons 1–3 of the 5-exon KL gene) and an endoproteolytic cleavage product of mKL (cKL). [2]

Binding hormones

  • FGF-23
    • Subsequent studies have identified αKlotho as being the necessary coreceptor for FGF23. [1]

Anatomical structures with this receptor

  • choroid_plexus_of_telencephalon

    • Klotho proteins were localized at choroid plexus in brain. [3]
  • distal_tubule_of_nephron
